An Expected Death At Home

If your loved one dies at home, and it is an expected death, you should do the following...
1. Call Your Doctor
Call your GP who will visit and certify that death has occurred. The GP, or a paramedic, will do relevant paperwork and forward this to the medical examiner.
2. The Medical Examiner
The Medical Examiner will contact the family and discuss the circumstances regarding the death and answer any questions the family may have. The Medical Examiner will then send relevant paperwork to The Registrar.
3. The Registrar
The Registrar will then contact the family to make an appointment to register the death. Once the death has been registered a green form will be issued and the funeral arrangements can be made.

If your loved one dies unexpectedly at home, you should do the following..
1. Contact Your Doctor & The Police
Call your GP and the police, who will visit and carry out an initial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The person who has died would normally be taken to the hospital.
2. The Coroner
The Coroner would then investigate the circumstances of the death. Once the coroner's involvement has finished, the relevant paperwork would be sent to the family and the funeral director. Please ensure you tell the coroners office that you wish to use us as your funeral director.
3. Register The Death
The Registrar will then contact the family to make an appointment to register the death and the funeral arrangements can be made with us.

If your loved one dies in hospital, and the death is expected, the following will happen...
1. The Hospital Doctor
The hospital doctor will do all the necessary paperwork and inform the Medical Examiner.
2. The Medical Examiner
The Medical Examiner will contact the family and discuss the circumstances regarding the death and answers any questions the family may have. The Medical Examiner will then send relevant paperwork to The Registrar.
3. Registering The Death
The Registrar will then contact the family to make an appointment to register the death. Once the death has been registered a green form will be issued and the funeral arrangements can be made.

If your loved one dies unexpectedly in the hospital, the following will happen...
1. The Hospital Death
The hospital doctor will refer the death to the coroner.
2. The Coroner
The Coroner would then investigate the circumstances of the death. Once the coroner's involvement has finished, the relevant paperwork would be sent to the family and the funeral director. Please ensure you tell the coroners office that you wish to use us as your funeral director.
3. Registering The Death
The Registrar will then contact the family to make an appointment to register the death and the funeral arrangements can be made with us.
A Death In A Nursing Home or Hospice
You can contact us anytime for help and advise.
If your loved one dies in a nursing home or hospice, the following will happen...
1. The Doctor, Nursing Home/Hospice Staff
The nursing home or hospice staff will certify that death has occurred. They will do the relevant paperwork and forward this to the medical examiner.
2. The Medical Examiner
The Medical Examiner will contact the family and discuss the circumstances regarding the death and answers any questions the family may have. The Medical Examiner will then send relevant paperwork to The Registrar.
3. Registering The Death
The Registrar will then contact the family to make an appointment to register the death. Once the death has been registered a green form will be issued and the funeral arrangements can be made.
An Accident, Suicide or Unexpected Death excluding any of the above.
The police and the coroner will be involved in the investigation surrounding the death.
Once the police and coroner's involvement has finished, arrangements for a funeral can take place.
